The first ever TEDx event in North Baton Rouge took place on May 22nd, 2021 in Scotlandville. The event was organized and filmed by Queen Muhammad Ali, LLC in partnership with Exxon, BREC, Metro Morphosis, NBRNOW, and the City of Baton Rouge. TEDxScotlandville, one of only three TEDx events ever held in Louisiana, brought together over a dozen speakers to share their ideas on the event's theme, "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back." The independently organized event sparked dynamic discussions and powerful ideas that inspired action.
The roster of speakers included Mayor Sharon Weston Broome, Council member Chauna Banks, young local activist Myra Richardson, and Derrick Warren, dean at Southern University, as well as nationally recognized influencers and contributors. The event drew attention from the wider community and beyond, providing a platform for important conversations on overcoming challenges and working towards shared goals.
"We are thrilled to have hosted this world-renowned speaking series in historic Scotlandville," said Mayor Broome in a prepared statement. "Our community has so much to offer to the conversation on meaningful change, and this event was a powerful testament to that." The success of TEDxScotlandville underscores the vibrant spirit of North Baton Rouge and the importance of innovative ideas and diverse perspectives in shaping a better future.
