Paul Haynes Building (Red Brick building)
The Future home of the Scotlandville Museum of Modern Art is located on 8442 Scotland Ave (HWY 19). This historical area was cultural and Black business epicenter of North Baton Rouge. This building along with others have been abandoned and vacant for 40 years.

Scotlandville Museum of Modern Art will be housed in the historic Hayes Building which has been a part of Scotlandville for almost a 100 years. The building's facade has been partially updated with new glass commercial doors, and shadowbox windows frames, new front windows and metal sign.
Nestled in the cultural district of Scotlandville Louisiana, Exhibit19 is a gallery Museum located inside an 4,200 ft² life-size architectural museum display.The building has been neglected for over 45 years and the city had plans to demolish it.
The first rendering of the redevelopment of the Paul Haynes building. the rooftop lounge and 2nd floor area has been removed due to structural issues.
Capturing the rich history of the area we conducted an interview with Photojournalist and historian James W. Terry III inside the building on the second floor. The second floor of the building was once a private club in the 1940’s. Mr. Terry has documented Baton Rouge area for over 4 decades.
Leader of the Scotlandville preservation movement, Byron Washington is also a historical and cultural advocate who turned the area into a cultural district in 2020.

We wanted to save the 2nd floor but years of exposure to rain caused major water damage to the roof and floor.
After years of neglect and abandonment we had to clean out some of the debris in order to assess the structural integrity of the building.
