Housing for Heroes™, a subsidiary of Queen Muhammad Ali, LLC, is a Black-owned, woman-led creative placemaking development firm. The firm successfully proposed to receive gap funding from the American Rescue Plan Act due to being disproportionately impacted by the negative effects of COVID-19. The proposal was unanimously approved by the Metro City Council in November 2021. However, to date, the gap funds have not been released by the city's administration to Housing for Heroes, causing delays in the project.
On Nov 4 2021, at the Baton Rouge Metro Council meeting Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome expressed how important the Housing for Heroes™ development is to the city. At this same meeting, Housing for Heroes was approved with a unanimous decision by the Metro City Council and the elected officials of East Baton Rouge.
